RG6 vs RG59: Which Coaxial Cable for CCTV & Satellite?
1. Spec Table
| Item | RG6 | RG59 |
|---|---|---|
| Conductor | 18AWG / 1.02mm BC | 20AWG / 0.81mm BC |
| Loss @ 100m / 750MHz | ~6.5dB | ~9.2dB |
| Max CCTV Distance | 300m (HD-TVI) | 150m |
| Best Use | Satellite, long CCTV | Short CCTV |
2. CCTV: How to Choose + Power Core
For CCTV we have RG6+2C and RG59+2C: the +2C means with 2x power cores.
- <50m: RG59+2C with 0.5mm² power is enough, cheaper.
- 50-150m: RG6+2C with 0.75mm² power.
- >150m: Use RG6+2C with 1.0mm² or separate power supply.
Formula: For 12V 1A camera, voltage drop = current x resistance. If drop >2V, camera restarts at night.
3. Satellite TV
Satellite must use RG6 75ohm, double shield (foil + 64 braid). RG59 loss too big, signal mosaic. Our RG6 is 75ohm ±3, return loss >20dB.
FAQ

Q: What is RG6+2C? Coaxial + 2 power wires in one jacket, easy for CCTV.
